Red Dead Redemption returns and is only marked down a single point due to the near-perfection of its sequel, this is nevertheless the definitive way to experience John Marston's story, with a fresh lick of paint and an update that may just transport you back to when you got off that train the very first time. Just brilliant.
Red Dead Redemption is a generational game. You play it and you realize why Ubisoft's games feel so shallow. It should have AT LEAST 96 Metacritic.
My concern is not the user score, but the critics. Since when do the critics judge a game's effort, performance, or price?
The've never cared for any of that, but they do now because this is a 2011 game re-released without paying tribute (censorship) to "the moden audience".
This masterpiece needs no retouching, it still begs you to stop and appreciate the magnificent vistas. The way remasters and remakes are being handled these days, leaving it untouched is a magnificent thing.
A Fantastic port of a fantastic game!!! . i've been dying to play this game since it's release on consoles in 2010. never really understood why it never came to PC Until now but at least it's worth the wait. The story, the characters, the world, the graphic quality is top notch. you can see that great care was taken to port this game. runs buttery smooth on my core i7 processor and Gtx 1660 at max settings with no hiccups or crashes. The main character john marston is just so badass!!! i hope we get Red dead 3. Rockstar make it happen!
After 14 years of its initial release on consoles, Red Dead Redemption has finally arrived on PC, and it’s still relevant! And if it weren’t for Red Dead Redemption 2, it would have been the best Western Action Adventure experience on the market. That’s how good RDR was and still is, and that’s how any developer should design their games.
Red Dead Redemption remains an example of excellent writing and characterisation. Its setting is atmospheric, and there's a reasonable amount to do, even if there are slight engine annoyances and some repetition in the mission structure.
Finally, after fourteen years, Red Dead Redemption also arrives on PC. The title has aged very well, unfortunately this conversion brings with it countless technical problems.
Coming to PC after years, Red Dead Redemption was disappointing with outdated graphics and a high price. Rockstar seems to have presented the game with minimal effort without updating it.
14-year-old adventure, which despite only minor adjustments is technically at its best on the PC. The dramatic story and the gripping soundtrack in particular still manage to inspire, but the price is high and the quality of the game is no longer quite as high as it was in 2010.
This is a review of red dead redemption without talking about the absurd price for a game from 2010.
I ve played rdr2 back when it came out. and have played it once more in 2020.
Never played this one before, but i always wanted to back then, and now I ve gotta say I m gona judge this right now for todays standard. I fnished the game in just under 16 hours while doing some strangers activity (aprox. 5-10), getting my honor as high as possible, and doing some random encounters, bounty hunts, and played some of the minigames.
Starting with:
THE GAMEPLAY:
Its pretty boring. The shooting is not that great, even the dead eye doesnt feel that responsive, walking the horse doesnt have the greatest movement. And the layout and mission design is very very repetitive for a short game. Shooting missions, shooting from horse mission, gattling gun or minigun, lasso horses, drive cattle that it. 5 types of missions again and again. And some duels i forgot. There were some cool layouts but like i can name them if i want to think of them and its like maximum 5-10 and it was more cuz of the story that carried them.
THE STORY: I think its just ok for today's standard. First thing I observed and this is a major rockstar flaw, is the layout and progression of the missions. I get it its open world, but games nowdays have great side quest and lots of stuff to do. But as ive said this game is not that fun to explore if its not a mission cuz the gameplay is not that engaging. So what do rockstar do in exchange they let u play the main missions in what order u want, which can greatly ruin how the story is paced. I just did my own order cuz my friend will play it soon and he wants it to be as cohessive as possible. I found some orders online which greatly helped however after i got to mexico. And the game started to shine a bit more. Reyes is by far my fav character. But by the end of that chapter the game starts to feel very rushed with almost every character that i ve been excited for gets such a little ammount of screen time, and dont feel compelling whatsoever. I honestly was just dissapointed seeing javier, bill, dutch... was ok even tho theres two of them at the same time cuz they hired the same voice actor for Nastas. And he literally sounds the exact same as dutch. Abigail was nice to see again, jack's voice actor can feel a bit underwhelming, and uncle's arc was just bad. The ending its neither special but i can neither have anything bad to say about it.
The open world: the soundtrack is amazing (when u walk back to the ranch, to mexico great stuff, the ending got me rdr2 nostalgia so good), but yeah the graphics are a bit outdated at times but it sometimes also gives a cool landscape to look at and admire what they did 14 years ago. But again its like very little u can do it, i would ve loved to see more cities or idk stuff to do, sometimes its like two different seasons pass too quickly it doesnt flow that smooth.
6/10 for today's standard
7,5 for back then i guess might go to an 8
In 2024, releasing a port **** from PS3 for $50, you need to have incredible audacity, especially considering that compared to the same RDR 2, the game has aged just terribly...
Very good game, a mediocre port and an excessive price. It is not worth buying it right now because for the price it has right now it is better to play it on console. It should have been released at $20 and they should have put a lot more effort into making the port. Rockstar only looks at the money now, they don't even respect the users.
