This game has creeped me out no end. It’s scary as hell with a properly spooky atmosphere that will really pull you in. And if that’s what you’re looking for this Halloween, I’d thoroughly recommend you give it a go... If you dare!
A practically perfect remake in every sense, Silent Hill 2 is a game that will stay with you long after the credits roll, and shouldn’t be missed by any horror fan.
An absolute Masterpiece, what bloober team has made out of this game. The immersion with the sound, the graphics, the story and the entire athmosphere feels so oppresive as it should be. I really hope the team takes care of the further remakes. What a wonderful job they made. Im not easy to impress. Without a doubt I give it a 10/10. Even with some minor bugs, a great piece of art!
Bloober team has remade one of mt all time favourite Psychological horror games to almost perfection! I just completed my 3rd playthrough and I am still in awe of its awesome. Everything is top notch. Cutscenes, Suspense, voice work. A big recommend from me.
Silent Hill 2 Remake by Bloober Team is a modern masterpiece in survival horror. The remake revisits James Sunderland's journey through a nightmarish Silent Hill, with stunning visuals, enhanced combat, and immersive environmental design. The story explores deep psychological themes while maintaining the fear-inducing gameplay that fans of the series remember.
With excellent performances, improved mechanics, and more than just a fresh coat of paint, Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 is one of the studio’s best projects to date. A sinister and compelling return to Silent Hill that you won’t forget in a hurry.
Silent Hill 2 is a pretty solid game. Its virtues shine at the level expected of a video game of such an important franchise and manages to keep its flaws from tarnishing the experience.
For players of the original, this should get a steady nostalgia drip going. But coming to this series fresh makes for an overlong, dated and tedious experience.
i had little faith in bloober team i cant deny that. i think they are a capable studio with flawed executions. i did grow dislike towards the idea of them copyrighting dual imagery of parallel aesthetics...i forgot the term. but essentially it was weird for this studio to do so considering they dont innovate and one franchise that we had in mind with the concept was silent hill. years later they were announced for the remake. strangely and odd choice from a publisher that did all their developers dirty and lost respect in their own ips and solely focused on ****. while they attempted returns. now they have returned with silent hills and metal gears. expectations were more than low.
now back to bloober they garnered some fame with layers of fear. this was during the horror walking sim wave. they had tiled trigger events that executed each time you passed it making a popular streamer known as jerma laugh hysterically making the game more laughable and we'll get back to their flaws. they also had controversy of stealing images and editing them after copyrighting a concept... but the game that made them stand out was the cyber noir/psyhorror the observer which starred hauer. you know the followed antagonist anarchist android in blade runner. it was pretty decent if you like those type of narrative walking sim games. but that made me realize they are capable.
silent hill 2 remake however is their best yet. their modelling and gameplay mechanics . the skin muscle deformation in cutscenes look phenomenal. but what sold on the experience was scavenging inside shops or the likes and being behind doors with glass windows seeing what lurked on the other side, wounded hoping i can survive if i walked and ran out. that felt immersive. they also did a decent job redoing the story and dialogue. listen sometimes people want things to be 1:1 but why be predictable. the original will always be there.
ofcourse there are flaws and the gameplay can be fairly simplicist (games are games repetition is bound to occur) and can be easy at times. there are moments where you are bleeding and can barely walk. but when you need to shimmer between spaces. it cuts to a cutscene where your character is clean and unwounded and back to wounded state. it breaks the flow of survival immersion but i guess they haven't mastered transitional trigger events yet. either way its a solid game. i think they have potential to become a more respectable studio if they can keep a pace of care in their work. i think this game /remake does really well showcasing that.
I’m giving up about 40% of the way through. If you play resident evil and think that it needs way worse and less combat (very clunky controls), but about 5x the puzzles then this game is for you
Another day, another remake that is demonstrably worse than the original. It seems that all that is required these days is a shiny coat of paint and being close enough to the original for the masses to fawn over it. The combat in the game has been completely changed, being over the shoulder now, resembling Resident Evil more than SH 2. Gone are the unique cinematic angles present throughout the original. Story and dialogue has been rewritten in some areas for seemingly no reason, noticeably with Eddie. A major downgrade overall, with some iconic lines gone. Character reactions fit the cutscenes far better in the original, everything being far more bland and lifeless in the remake. Censorship in present as well, Maria's outfit being redesigned to remove midriff, and the Dog Ending credits being completely removed. The cutscenes of Pyramid Head doing sexually suggestive things with the mannequins also had such content completely removed.
Play the original.
4/10
