This remaster is a great refinement of the already excellent original, The Last of Us Part II. Newcomers should not miss out on experiencing one of the best games released. Additionally, there is enough extra content to warrant a return for those who have already played it.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is the best way to play one of the best games ever made. Excellent bonus content and visual bells and whistles make this $10 more than worth it, and the exact excuse you need to revisit this modern masterpiece.
Un vrai bon jeux solo narratifs, tu ne vie pas l'histoire mais tu la subis. Un des rares jeux qui m'a fait mettre pause en me disant "merde je vais vraiment devoir faire ça"
Regardless of if you’re experiencing the story for the first time, or returning for the $10 upgrade, this is the definitive version of one of the finest video games ever made. It’s worth playing for the story alone, but the No Return mode is an intense and fun addition that might keep you around longer than you expect.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is a more fully-featured and overall superior version of an already-incredible game. No Return makes it worth the $10 upgrade by itself, and the game is an absolute must-buy for anyone who has never played the PS4 original. The Lost Levels are a bit of a letdown and the graphics haven't gotten as much of an upgrade as some may have hoped, but this is still the definitive way to experience Naughty Dog's masterpiece.
The remastered version of The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 5
boasts significant graphical enhancements and improved performance,
featuring a compelling and challenging Roguelike mode and additional
content for enthusiasts. It is definitely worth trying, because it
stands out as an even better package. It's the ultimate edition of one
of the best games ever made for PlayStation.
Do I think The Last of Us 2 Remastered is worth it? Absolutely. At $10, it’s a no-brainer if you want to revisit TLoU2 on PlayStation 5. No Return is the most fun I've had with the game's stealth-action mechanics yet, and the DualSense haptics add depth to gameplay and cutscenes, putting tension on bow strings and adding physical context to dialogue through vibrations. If you’ve never played TLoU2 but have been waiting for the best version of it, this is it, despite the frame drop issues and the limited Making Of content. No Return is worth the price of admission alone.
The Last of Us Part II Remastered is not a remaster at all. At best it has some new features that should have been free. No Return roguelike game mode is lackluster and there is no point in playing it. TLOU combat was complementing the story, and it did so very well – unlike No Return which is basically hide and seek with extra steps. For a layman, the graphic improvements are unnoticeable, especially if you haven’t played it in a while, and there are a bunch of new bugs that were previously absent (falling through the ground, missing limbs on character models, etc). The lost chapters are neat to get some dev insight, but are almost unplayable, as they are mostly alpha. This should have been a free DLC for the fans and not a quick money grab. Naughty Dog, take a note from Santa Monica Studios.
Nota 10
After years of following internet debate threads, I took the plunge and decided it was time to form my own opinion of The Last of Us Part 2. Knowing what I already did from the spoilers not only made it easier to start this painful journey, but also got me excited to see how much I didn’t know along the way. Strictly speaking, this is a very fun game. Combat was greatly improved from the original making enemy encounters more fun, especially in every unique boss fight with the highlight to me being a one of a kind infected fight that lasted two parts. This game also successfully kept me coming back every night interested to see what happens next, which is certainly the mark of a fun addictive game.
The positive highlights being said however, the story value here is not only depressing, it’s incredibly lacking. Throughout the journey I felt as though the story took every possible chance to make me feel sad, and while post apocalyptic stories are certainly far from happy, often what I was forced to do as the player felt cruel and mean-spirited. After being run through the proverbial gutter, halfway through the game the tone becomes a lighter one, but from conception that is inherently even more sad considering you know the fates of several people (and pets) you meet along the way. I can say with certainty there is no joy to be found here, and just when you think you’ve found a little, it’s quickly taken away. Depressing tones aside, half of the narrative focuses on a war between soldiers and a cult. While the new character Abby is enjoyable and fun to play as, unfortunately the story of her being trapped in that war is just not that interesting.
I could go on with specific examples of the pros and cons I found during my time with this game, but I do like to avoid spoilers in my mini-reviews so I’ll sum up my feelings in a few short thoughts. Video games to me are a form of escapism, a way to take a break from life and live in another world for a little bit. Life is hard enough, and so when I want to experience a narrative it doesn’t have to be sunshine and roses, but I want something I can take from my brief escape from reality. This is a fundamentally great game, and could be called a work of art in the same vein as other movies and books that tackle very serious topics are. I did have fun playing this game and following the journey, but I have little I can take away from the narrative other than a bad feeling in my stomach. I didn’t hate this game in the slightest, but I also did not love it either.
If I can end on one positive note however, I will say I am glad I played it for myself and formed my own opinion. I had previously written off this franchise, and now I’m much more likely to play Part 3 when it releases someday. I suppose looking at it that way, The Last of Us Part 2 was able to reach an achievement with me by pulling me back into a series I enjoy, and that alone made it worth playing.
I love The Last Of Us but can not justify giving this a higher score due to the fact that in the story my progress has been blocked by a glitch Where Joel and Tommy have just frozen in place. The only redeeming factor of this remaster is No Return but gets stale once all of the character challenges have been completed. I will write my final thoughts on the game once the glitch has been sorted.
