Green light for the new Batman: Arkham Shadow, a title that keeps its promises by bringing one of the most popular franchises in the traditional video game landscape to Meta viewers. Our experience with Meta Quest 3 was fun and at times very satisfying, with a dynamic and lively combat system and stimulating gameplay even in the more static phases of investigations or the study of areas to be tackled stealthily. The graphics department is good, but the high ambitions of the development team must clash with limited hardware for the standalone execution of a game of this kind. The test is generally good with some stumbles, for one of the best VR games of the year.
Death Note Killer Within is truly fascinating, even to look at from a distance. It’s a smart adaptation of a Shonen Jump manga that is famous for challenging what “Shonen Jump manga” could be at its moment in time. Seeing the characters pop up in games like Jump Ultimate Stars or Jump Force was always awkward, and the other games based on the series remain obscure. So it’s cool to see the folks who made this identify a trend and realize the IP is a good fit, then execute it in a way that both adapts Death Note and have fun with it at the same time. I think it has a pretty limited audience though, as you have to cross several barriers of entry to get what feels like the only way to have a good time. If the gameplay gave more time for its nuances to breathe and shine, was more adaptable to the inherent instability of online play, and was more approachable, there’d be something really special here.
The game has potential. Even with all of its moving parts, it’s simple to understand. However, it lacks on maps, tasks and characters. There is some choices that the devs made that make it hard to fully enjoy the game for example kicking all the players back to the lobby if only one player leaves the game. Though, I believe that with the next few updates this game will be near perfect.
For an anime Among Us clone, it’s pretty solid and I had a great time with it. If you have a couple of friends and a PS+, this game is ideal for a gaming night. However, it gets stale real quick as there is only one map. Overall it’s a good experience to have with your friends. Simple and fun.
Fun Among Us-Like Game for Death Note Fans, but Needs RefinementIf you’ve watched Death Note and enjoy social deduction games, Death Note: A Killer Within offers an engaging experience. The core gameplay brings an Among Us-style twist with a Death Note theme, making for some intense and strategic moments. However, there are a couple of notable drawbacks that could use improvement:Match Termination Issue: Currently, if any player leaves during a match, the game immediately ends, which can be frustrating.Kira Role Problem: If you are playing as Kira and pass off the Death Note, there is a chance that the Kira follower may be unable to use it effectively. This can hinder the gameplay dynamic.Quality of Life SuggestionsMore Maps: As of now, the game only offers one map. Introducing additional maps would greatly enhance replayability and keep the experience fresh.More Roles and Modes: New roles or game modes could also add variety and depth, encouraging players to stay engaged longer.Visuals and PresentationThis is just my personal opinion, but for a less graphics-heavy game, I would have loved to see smoother, cleaner, high-definition character models. The menus could also benefit from more polish, perhaps taking inspiration from the modern Persona games with their stylish and immersive interfaces. Lastly, an improved original soundtrack (OST) would enhance the atmosphere.Overall, I hope Death Note: A Killer Within gets continued support and doesn’t become a dead game in a few weeks. It has great potential if these issues are addressed.
