Thanks to its meticulous Craftsmanship, unsettling narrative, and Nicolas Cage's most harrowing role yet, 'Longlegs' is a masterclass in psychological horror that lingers long after the credits roll.
Terror psicológico, sin jumscares ni gore, de ese que a la mayoría no le gusta por ser mas lento y menos bombástico, pero para mi esta película estuvo escalofriante hasta la médula.
Is this movie the scariest thing on the face of the planet? no. Is it creepy as **** and filled with dread, beautiful cinematography and amazing performances? Yes. Maika Monroe is phenomenal and will win an oscar in the near future. Nicolas Cage and Alicia Witt truly went all out as well. Blair Underwood also shines in this movie and id love to see more of him. I’ve seen the movie twice so far and loved it even more the second time. There’s so many little details you notice on second watch after knowing the full story and it really shows the care and thought put into this movie. Go see it once go see it twice. Go see it three times.
There are many hallmarks of the psychological horror at play (a creepy killer, a traumatised survivor, a parent with dark secrets) but under Perkins’ careful hand, the familiar feels unnerving all the same, a puzzle box dripping with bright red blood.
What one does not expect is a load of total trash full of gimmicks instead of ideas, stolen scenes from other movies instead of originality, amateurish posturing instead of professional performances, clueless meandering instead of organized screenplays, and pointless confusion instead of clear-eyed direction.
Moody but derivative in the extreme, with decent (Monroe) to very good (Witt) performances, with the notable exception of star-appeal Nicholas Cage whose makeup is as inexplicable and distracting as it is absurd rather than terrifying, underpinned with a performance best described as having fallen out the bottom of a bag of characters from "The League of Gentlemen" BBC TV show. Longlegs is more Papa Lazarou than Jame Gumb. The film's relentless marketing campaign has given it some undue focus in the discussion of 'greatest horror movies of the year' although if you don't go in expecting the next best thing since The Silence of the Lambs (it is categorically not that) and just want some schlocky nonsense, you won't be disappointed. The film has done well and so I wouldn't be surprised if it led to a sequel, but the premise is so paper-thin already I really think that would be a bad idea.
While the marketing for this movie was excellent, the actual movie was just average. It's beautifully shot and wonderfully atmospheric, but the story is a huge letdown. It starts out with some interesting ideas, but quickly gets shoehorned into a standard horror formula.
I mean... come on. Such a mess of a story, no real triggers, infantile characters and a really cliche approach toward the genre. And the acting of all characters including Cage isn't worth a buck!
