Persona 5 Tactica is an excellent addition to the overall Persona 5 property. What at first looks like a cheerfully whimsical bonus spinoff ends up being something that adds to the core themes of the base game, and is impressive in the way it does that. It also backs up with some of the sharpest “fast tactics” play we’ve seen in the genre. I just wish the concept and theme were written better, and I honestly never thought I would say that of a Persona title.
Persona 5 Tactica is a great excuse to walk back into the world of Persona, and while it’s not the deepest or most challenging tactical RPG out there, it’s still a respectable game and a great addition to the Persona series.
Persona 5 Tactica brings the Phantom Thieves back together for fans to enjoy in a strategy and role-playing game full of possibilities. A new opportunity to live adventures with Joker and his friends, this time leading a new revolution. On a negative note, it may fall short for those with a lot of experience in this type of games.
Persona 5 is less an action RPG, and rather a well-executed tactical turn-based game. The gameplay is well thought out with complex systems, the design and visual style follows the legacy of the series with some minor changes to keep things fresh, and as per usual the polis of the game is spotless. Yet somewhere along the way the focus shifted too much towards the battle and had a somewhat negative impact on the pacing, the atmosphere and the player engagement in general. Persona 5 is the most repetitive and monotonous iteration released by Atlus so far.
Persona 5 Tactica is a fun time for someone who’s looking for a more casual strategy game. The Phantom Thieves are just as charming as ever, and the newly introduced characters mesh well with them. It’s not an essential experience in the same way that Persona 5 Strikers was, but fans who aren’t tired of Persona 5 yet will find plenty to like with Tactica.
The game's lacking the heart and soul of the other titles set in the universe of Persona 5. Fans of the series can still enjoy it because of the beloved characters and the entertaining combat system.
Indeed, Tactica is very much a Persona 5 game, with all that entails: conceptually sound, visually stylish, lovingly assembled - and needlessly drawn out. [Issue#392, p.116]
The Erina character is one of the best characters in all Persona history, and you get impregnated with the history. Is the perfect warm-up for a Persona fan waiting the Persona 3 release date.
The gameplay and basic game loop is fun, characters are well differentiated, the art style is appealing and looks good.
There are some very good plot moments, and the new characters really do grow on you over time. I didn't imagine myself coming around on then as much as I did, but it was a fun ride.
The dialogue/plot to gameplay ratio is atrocious though. Gameplay is fast, and stages are short, which isn't an issue, but you'll often have an hour of dialogue in between stages that you can finish in 15 minutes. Persona games always have lots of dialogue, but the levels being so short here in tactica ruins the ratio of game to plot found in the mainline titles.
I enjoyed it, but I'd recommend it only to established p5 diehards. If you're looking for a solid strategy rpg consider skipping dialogue.
Such a shame they are pushing way to much dialogs into every scene. Its always the same bs story in the chapters as well. Episode 1 was good but after that im just replaying the entire thing again. The game smells like sweet baby inc had some writing in it.
