My hands actually hurt from gripping the Switch but I couldn’t stop, and when I finally landed on the other side of one of the many gauntlets that Celeste wears like a medal, I felt both relief and curiosity as to what it would throw at me next. It’s a rewarding experience and a game that I’m honoured to issue a perfect score.
Celeste is an exemplary amalgamation of style, mechanics and character. A devilishly brilliant action platformer with enough skill required to excite genre purists and the speed running community, while at the same time featuring a breakdown of gameplay elements to customize and cater for all audiences. While the game mechanically is great, if familiar, the art style and narrative are truly special, showing both a visual and emotional range and depth that will resonate and inspire. Celeste is the absolute peak of personal exploration and discovery on Nintendo Switch.
I've never been so simultaneously pissed and euphoric in my entire life. this game is so gorgeous, the themes are amazing, the music is amazing, the difficulty is brutal, everything about this game is just amazing. took me 6 damn months to clear summit C-side btw that stage was my hell.
This is THE best platformer I've ever played but it Is very challenging for some people luckily there is an assist mode for people who just want the story or aren't the best platformers, but if you love platformers and don't really care for the story (that is really good I don't know why you would skip it) you can always skip the cutscenes. Overall, this game is an absolute masterpiece and a must-play 10/10 for me, there is also a free DLC that's extra challenging -TNT, 2024
Celeste is probably the greatest surprise in 2018 so far. Its marvelous platforming, great mechanics, lovely visuals and lovely soundtrack simply make this a must have for anyone who loves 2D platformers.
Celeste is a challenging, charming and near-to-perfection game that doesn't only play well, but also tells a poignant story and merges this with all the best qualities you can expect from a platformer.
It may take a certain type of patience to really get hooked into Celeste's laboriously challenging masochism, but it’s undeniably a well-crafted and thoughtfully designed experience that’s equally satisfying as it is unyielding.
Overall, it’s a very good game. The gameplay is fun, the difficulty increases progressively, and you gain new abilities with each chapter, the difficulty increases gradually, which is really well done. . The side quests bring you back to certain levels, adding to the experience. However, the only downside is the story: it’s cheesy, with bland characters and a clichéd "friendship power" theme. The dialogues are long and uninteresting.
If you’re playing just for the gameplay, go ahead and buy it. It's often on sale, and you’ll enjoy it for about a week.
A very overrated game with nothing too special. The great feature is the soundtrack, which is really good, but the rest of the game is just like any other indie shovelware. It would deserve a 6, maybe a 7, but I gave it a 4 because the saddest thing is that the game is hyped by the specialized media just because the political views and connections of the author, which is a very disgusting fact.
Coming from games like Hollow Knight and The Messenger, I was pretty disappointed about spending $20 on this game(thanks hype machine!). Unlike HK or TM, this game controls like a turd. The graphics are nothing to write home about and neither is the music. You know modern gaming journalism is a joke when mediocre games keep getting high scores. If you are a thinking person who doesn't gets easily swayed by pathetic hyping, this is a hard pass. If you absolutely must play this game, just wait until it's on sale for like 10$ or lower
