If you’ve played previous Sniper Elite games, you already know if you’re going to like Sniper Elite 5. If you haven’t, I can’t recommend it enough, as well as the previous entries. The quality is consistent all the way back to the first entry, and it’s a ton of fun. Don’t forget to check out the Nazi Zombie Army games as well. As I mentioned at the beginning of the review, Rebellion knows the meaning of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, and they’ve used that to pump out a series of great games.
While going back to World War II might not be on the top of players' minds when it comes to a new shooter, the new Axis Invasion mode brings Dark Souls competitive PVP to a stealth series in a way that might be impossible to top.
An action hero for the ages, Karl Fairburn takes you trough a bullet-ridden, high-stakes, action-packed blockbuster thrill ride. Sniper Elite 5 is the epitome of what it means to marry tactical shooters and stealth action games.
Sniper Elite 5 makes small attempts at innovation but not enough to stop it from being a fairly safe entrant into the Sniper Elite franchise. The enhanced killcam, extensive weapon customization, and better skill trees help to improve the experience over Sniper Elite 4. Players will undoubtedly have fun roaming the large battlefields of France as long as they can get over the minor bugs, although we could do without those that can stop a playthrough in its tracks. While the standard multiplayer modes and Survival mode will keep players occupied for a while, Invasion mode is what will keep players coming back for more.
Sniper Elite 5 is a bad game, in part thanks to boring maps, lackluster graphics and a non-existent story, but most of all because of its fundamentally flawed AI that takes all the fun out of stealth and sniping.
I was not expecting much from the trailers, i was expecting pretty much the same game just in a different place, but man am i glad i got this game (I was wrong). The changes to the bullet ballistics, gfx upgrades, and new game modes really sold it to me after the fact. I am a history nerd so I thought that it was pretty cool that they didnt censor this release like they have in previous titles (Swatikas, SS, etc) The story is quite interesting and each mission has tons of objectives to complete on huge maps that you can tackles in a non-linear way. You can spend over an hour on each mission on the easiest difficulty or fly right through them (your choice). There is also custom difficulty, say you want authentic bullet ballistics but you want full hud; you can do that. The Axis Invasion is probably my favorite part of this game. I wont spoil it for anyone but make sure you turn it on before starting your missions ;). This feature is EASILY the best feature in the new release and should be a staple in the franchise from here on out. I am a long time veteran since v2 and i have got to say that this is my favorite game yet! I really hope to see another release sooner than before (5 years) but if i have to wait, i will and thats okay.
Sniper Elite 5 is alright, but not the best of the series. The levels are just a tad too big, and that can make them take hours to complete. The kill cams are still satisfying, the stealth is solid. I feel the open levels are a big detracting factor, but the weapon customization helps a lot. Worth a play if you can get it for free, or at a discounted price.
For people new to Sniper Elite 9/10 - Great range of weapons, the locations and landscapes are freaking amazing, so much detail and variety. Combat is easy to pick up and only as challenging as you need it to be. Typical mission can be cleared once you master the route and only do main objectives in 20-30 minutes. But, first time run, 100% the mission, all side objectives, exploring everywhere took on average 3-5 hours. Plenty of replay value with invasion mode. Well recommended to play this before then going back to explore the previous games.
For experienced Sniper Elite players 4/10 - Apart from taking away fun things like crouch-run and trip wires, It's just too easy, especially Authentic mode which is barely a challenge now for experienced players (I cleared the entire campaign on authentic in a few hours yesterday and this afternoon). Too many opportunities for sound cover, but you barely need it because the audible range of weapons is so low its ridiculous. In SE2 - SE4 there were many instances I sat patiently waiting for a plane to fly over, or a vehicle to pass to mask my sound, in SE5 I didn't even bother sound masking 95% of the time even on my Authentic run (although I did run with the Deslisle Carbine). The audible range of weapons is just whack, its maybe fine on easier levels but on authentic, sniper rifles having audible range of 20m is stupid. There are still scope hints on authentic for some reason which defeats the whole point, and the multiple entry points make missions a breeze. Game desperately needs Authentic+ for experienced players with no scope hints and better audible ranges for weapons.
I think the fact that sniper elite 2, 3 and 4 have platinum rates of about 3-6%, but 5 has a plat rate of ~20% says it all.
Si eres segudor de la saga... Oues no cambia mucho.
Varios!!! Juegos incompletos, y muy repetitivo. Pero no deja de ser entretenido.
Sniper Elite 5 is a game that couldn't be what it wanted to. Even though it tries to be a stealth game in story, directives and mission objectives; gameplay says the opposite.
While it tries to encourage player to be vigilant; weapons, enemy reactions, character abilities show that you actually can play the game like it is a ww2 themed action shooter. You can run away from enemies and they won't (probably can't) even shoot you. I wanna mention that I have played game in hard difficulty and those are my experiences. You can kill their commander and they will forget it like in a minute or something.
Player character is not suitable for a serious stealth game. It can move fast and freely, it can heal itself in the middle of fight and tbh it is really hard for player to die if they are playing a little careful. To limit players movements there is a pulse mechanic that prevents running for long but no you guessed it wrong, it won't stop player from running, instead player just breaths loudly. But again it doesn't matter if you are spotted or anything you can just continue running, they will forget eventually. So it is clear that this character is not a stealth game character.
Enemies won't help us to feel better too (sadly). Even though they can spot you for good distances, they can be really stupid. There were a time that I was being chased into building and I decided to just hide behind a door. Enemies kept getting inside and meaninglessly looking at the wall right ahead of them. I could kill them all like that and they done this one by one to make my job easier.
Besides all wrong choices made for player character, level design is so good. There are interesting maps, some good side quests, clever city designs and so. If there would be a better stealth mechanics game could achieve more.
There is a choice that made me happy to see: character skills. Thanks to these skills and weapon upgrade system player can feel a connection and advancement between episodes. It helped game to be a whole.
I will not talk about story that much becuse it is a normal ww2 story with nothing too bad or too good. It keeps player to be involved and that is enough for a normal story.
There is a thing that I don't know how to feel. Bullet drop is a really weak thing. I haven't even felt it before I shoot from a really huge distance. I would rather calculate things in a sniper game but there were no need for it.
To sum up, this is a game that lost its purpose and seriousness. It is even more sad when you see what could it be and what it is now.
