There is no higher point in Mario platforming than this, and given the height of galactic situations, only something far off the spectrum like Super Mario Micro or Super Mario Universe ad nauseam could possibly topple it in terms of scale and evolution in game design.
This is it. As someone who has been trying a lot of different types of gamesin the 3D era, this is it. This is the best game ever made. The best i ever played. It flirts with perfection. The music, the gameplay, the level design. Nintendo really did it, they created the best gamer. I remember playing the game when in came out in 2007, even as a kid, i was already this is the best game ever made. For the following years, whenever i played a game, this game was always in my mind. I had a similar relationshiop with God Of War 3, i always thought it ws the 2nd best game ever made. But after replaying it recently, i discovered a lot of it was nostalgia, i actually like some newer games more. So i thought maybe it was the same for Mario Galaxy but then i ran it on the Switch, now that i'm older, more experience, much more picky butit actually solidified my mind. That's the top 1. Still to this day, 17 years later, still hasn't play a game i deem better. I think why i enjoy this game so much is that it really captures my vision of what a videogame should be. No movie like story, no photorealistic graphics, no overdoing. This game is just pure fun and art
If you enjoy playing the best, then you absolutely need to play Super Mario Galaxy. It's our favorite Wii game this year, and a strong contender for the best game of the year.
Super Mario Galaxy is not only the best game on the Wii, but it's one of the best games ever made. Few titles have quite the level of pure creativity mixed with "wow" moments like Galaxy does.
Nintendo has crafted a platform game that, while not as technologically pioneering as its grandfather, is, level for level, more fun to play than "Mario 64." [Dec 2007, p.128]
Is this game a 10/10? Absolutely not. Is it still great? I thinks so. It absolutely has a bunch of 10/10 moments, which just makes me wish the whole game would be kept to that standard. Apart from the typically named flaws, namely the inconsistent camera controls, infuriating sound when low on life and overly linear levels, the biggest flaw was the lack of momentum. With the great movement and triple jump this is a big shame since I feel like you often don't get enough space to build up speed to utilize these great mechanics. Never doest this become more apparent than in the (fantastic) final level. This level really shows what this game could have been, amazing flow, barely any tiny round planets, and thrilling platforming. Everything combined, with a killer soundtrack and gorgeous visuals still made for a memorable and fun experience.
Hate me all you want, but this is my least favorite mario game ever. This would be a 4/10 for me, but i'll give it a 7/10 because of childhood memories.
It was fun as a kid but we arent 10 years old now. We should move on mediocrity and have our own criticial look at the games. And this one of the most mindnubingly boring game nintendo have ever developed. None of the ideas are actually fun to experience and nothing about the level designs is engaging
[OBJECTIVE QUALITY REVIEW] The controls with the planetary movement just had little if any heart put into them - they simply don't work well when upside down. They should just keep moving in the same direction when GOING upside down and then work 'normally' when ALREADY upside down. Also, the graphics, despite looking realistic, and admittedly even more so than Odyssey's, aren't the best either. Also, and especially considering the aforementioned controls, some challenges of the galaxies in the game are punishing, rather than difficult - because they either require unnecessary amounts of precision, or just simple leave you with no real choice or direction on how to deal with them, at least not right-off-the-bat. Overall, as a result of all of this, the only real reason to get engaged in this game in the long run is completing the main game - the post-game is just boring, tedious, and frustrating to deal with as a whole. Fans that rate this game high should try out other galaxy-style games and compare them, and maybe they'll find the latter objectively better than the former. What a shame.
