If you're a Harry Potter fan and a PS Plus subscriber, give it a try! And even if you're not, but want a fun experience with friends who enjoy it, it could be a good choice – especially for those who like sports. Now, if you have to pay, it might be better to wait a little to see if we'll actually get more content in the coming months, as promised by the developers.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is much better than I expected before playing it. It's a fairly polished experience and close to what a fan of the wizarding world would want from this sport. However, in pursuit of making a good gameplay loop, it overcomplicates things that don't make sense and falls short.
If you ask me, the game simply wouldn't have made sense as a dlc, as Hogwarts Legacy is a single player story game and Hogwarts Quidditch Champions is a multiplayer game that thrives on constant support.
I'd also like to praise the fact that we've got a game here that tries to bring back nostalgia and love and does it very well.
Lastly, I'm more than grateful to FINALLY see no PayToWin/ Lootboxes as options here... absolute recommendation to all the Potterheads out there. In my eyes the better Rocket League or FC.
The game mechanics are really impressive and allow lots of different play styles. Being a seeker feels like a well-tuned flight simulator, with really immersive sound effects on the broom's accelerator and lots of sharp turns and the need to dodge incoming attacks and continue to bump the competing seeker. Feels just like the Harry vs. Draco scene from the movies. Being a chaser is my favorite: it feels really competitive and allows for lots of different approaches (do you spec out tackling, quaffle handling, etc.) but has a friendly control scheme and learning curve. Never could get the cars in rocket league to do the amazing trick shots that my opponents could do, but in Champions you can really show off without needing to train like an e-sport legend. You switch between roles on the team, so if you just blocked the shot on goal you can stay on Keeper and send out a play caller for the rest of the team to follow and get buffed, or you can switch over and get back into the action. It feels like the core game is really polished and well-crafted, can't wait to see the rest of the play modes and content get released. For a first-season live service online competitive game, it launched with a surprising amount of cosmetics and single-player content to get you started, but I do hope they release more as the player base levels up.
While this foundation is great, though, it only goes so far. Despite having the potential to be my next online gaming obsession, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will, unfortunately, take a backseat for now until more worthwhile content and modes arrive.
If you have Playstation Plus, it's an ideal game to play for free and linger for a few hours. But it's a bit too small in diameter to pay for it. Actually it would fit into Hogwarts Legacy just fine.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions delivers a simple and unexciting game, but it serves to bring back the spirit of Quidditch that many fans of the wizarding sport have been waiting for over 20 years.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions gets the core fundamentals of Quidditch right - it's fast-paced, frenetic and a joy to zip around the field. But despite some robust multiplayer options, there's just not a whole lot here to keep you interested beyond a few hours.
Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will entertain us for the first few hours if we play solo, but it will quickly lose momentum due to some shortcomings. It suffers from a significant lack of content as well as gameplay issues like irregular handling of certain situations and some other glitches.
Really fun at the basic level and easy to learn and level up. Once I was comfortable with the controls I was able to learn skill shots and tricky plays that feel really intense and add excitement to the game… and I am not typically a high skill level player in most competitive genres. there’s plenty of cosmetics but you also get rewards that add to the gameplay abilities, upgrade your speed and acceleration, etc. so it feels cool leveling up. Most fun to play with friends, get a team of three or two teams of 3 if you have a bigger group!
"Quidditch Champions on PS5 is free for PS Plus subscribers, which is a great perk. The campaign is simple and quick, and while it feels strange that the absence of microtransactions is a 2024 selling point, it’s refreshing that everything can be unlocked through gameplay. The game could use a bit more polish, but it’s a fun experience for any Harry Potter fan and feels like Rocket League on broomsticks."
This could be a nice game.
Al the known characters, some even with original voices, decent graphics, fun ****
Which muggle was responisble for controls??
The standard settings are so far from being intuitive. Who thought it would be a good idea to put directional control on the right stick and make this THE ONLY thing that can not be changed, basically making the four buttons unusable.
You could have at least gave players the option to customize control completely.
Therefore only 4 points.
The game not only looks bad but it also feels terrible to play.
The controls feels like the early stages of any sports game.
What could have been a mini game in Hogwarts Legacy is now a standalone and not a good one at all.
SummaryYour next chapter takes flight! Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Quidditch by playing solo or sharing the magic with friends and family.
