Ys X: Nordics brings Adol Christin's youthful spirit to the forefront, offering a refreshing mix of action-packed combat, deep customization through the Release Line, and expansive exploration. With a gripping narrative and dynamic character relationships, this entry stands as one of the best in the series. While the sea navigation takes time to open up, the ship battles and adventuring more than make up for it. Ys X: Nordics will appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Ys X: Nordics doesn’t exactly feel like an evolution of the prolific series, but more of a sidestep into something new and different. I’m not sure if future games will look like this, but that’s honestly Nordics’ biggest strength. It simultaneously feels faithful to the franchise and bold and new, all at once. It certainly stumbles here and there with story and the visual variety of its world, but it’s a robust seafaring tale full of rebellious spirit — just like the pirates that inspired it. It’s already been an absurdly busy year for RPGs, but I hope something as stellar as Ys X doesn’t get lost beneath the waves.
Another awesome adventure of Adol. Sharp, clear and colorful graphics. Improvement in gameplay and graphics over Ys IX. Ys VIII still reigns supreme in adventure department.
Ys X: Nordics is a really well-done little-big action-adventure RPG that can give you hours of fun. I guess I don't have to fear the demise of Ys after all. But still, Nihom, seriously: at least take a look at Unreal Engine 3 or something. Might help.
With Ys X Nordics, Falcom reconfirms the pedigree of excellent action role-playing games that it has always boasted in the Japanese production panorama. The new navigation mechanics enrich and multifaceted an exploratory system that, if it had only expressed itself in the contained three-dimensional maps that represent the islands, could have disappointed most. The battle system remains the jewel in the crown of the work, especially at higher difficulty levels, but perhaps it is time for the Japanese company to take a further step forward in terms of production values. Adol deserves to be the protagonist of a video game that does not seem to have come from a distant era.
While Ys X: Nordics might not light the world on fire by itself - and certainly has some core issues that could do with refining - I found that most of these issues slid into the back of my mind as I kept on playing. The story of Adol, Karja and the Griegr is enough to keep the game moving forward and the character moments that flesh it out were good. Ys X manages to demosntrate the key strengths of the franchise but unfortunate balance and shaky new mechanics hold it back from being a homerun.
Ys 10: Nordics isn't a bad game and offers plenty of action RPG fun for newcomers and veterans. However, some design elements feel off, leveling off what should be the series' next ascent to greatness.
As a fan of Norse aesthetics, the new Ys game scratches an itch that Assassin's Creed Valhalla failed to satisfy. The combat of Ys is top notch as always, but improved with new aspects, including a "grappling hook", and being able to coordinate Adol's attacks with series newcomer Karja. It also looks a tad better than the previous games, Monstrum Nox and Lacrimosa of Dana. The addition of naval combat is well executed, and a fun side activity to mix it up from the monster raids of previous titles. The meat and potatoes of the game is still the exploring, which is aided by both sailing the seas, and that aforementioned grappling hook. I personally think Nordics is the highest point of the series, though not without stiff competition. Maybe it's my bias for Norse aesthetics/mythological elements, but Nordics is the best in the series.
Look like Ys 8 was the last true Ys, the last good Ys...Just like Ys 9 , Ys 10 is bloated with hours of dull exposition and dry characters blabbing endlessly . Sure combat is fun,( stll( but still less fun than 8s combat ) the combat in Ys X is very spaced out and sandwiched between long boring talking sections.
Ys 8 was perfect, conversations were brief but impactful so that they never took to much time away from exploration and combat, the same way its done in Most Zelda games. All YS games had this great pacing formula until Ys 9 and 10 , I swear there is a new team making these games. Also in Ys X Characters now move insanly slow and there is long boring sections that have you running from one boring conversation to another for long periods, its mind numbing and now slow AF.
The game also look ridiculasly dated. I usually dont care about this but when you have characters that blabing for 10 minutes at a time but they are standing on 10 polygon hex shaped legs, it distracting..
Seriously play the old games Ys 8 and back if you want to try the series. Its lost its magic and hopfully this will be the last one. I mean its not going to sell well, word of mouth was bad for Ys 9 and Ys x is everything wrong with 9 doubled.. The ports of the previous game was terible. Ys 9 ran bad on everything and never got patched , so the downfall of Ys really is their own fault.
Ys X runs ok at the start, on PC and PS5 but the further you play the worse performance gets , which is a trick ive seen to often in recent years. Just pass on switch, dont do it..font believe the shill, no modern Ys games run good on switch.
