If you pick up Empire of Ants for any reason, it shouldn’t be the obvious one. Of course, it’s gorgeous, and perhaps one of the most visually stunning games I’ve ever played, but there’s a simple charm to its gameplay and overall worldbuilding that deserves to be experienced by as wide an audience as possible. Whether leading a charge of warriors into battle or simply standing on an abandoned bottle and watching your colony do its thing, there’s something so special about Empire of Ants that makes it an absolute joy to experience.
We're 110% behind Tower Five's proposition with Empire of the Ants, which offers an original, exotic voyage off the beaten track, delivering a charismatic production. It's a big yes.
The Ants is much more than just a feast for the eyes. Tower Five studio has succeeded in bringing this kind of game to console. It offers players a new way to approach real-time strategy thanks to accessible and easy-to-use gameplay. However, we regret the brutal comparison with the book in terms of narration since the title lacks memorable moments and leaves the player little involved, at least for the story. Otherwise, it has never been so enjoyable to play as an ant and it would be stupid not to give it a chance when it is released.
Empire of the Ants is the work of a small studio that was inspired by the famous novel by Bernard Werber to give a touch of originality to a complex genre like RTS: although the narrative suffers from the "reduced" ways of expressing its protagonists, the excellent visuals manage to give great complexity to a game world that can be appreciated for the care taken in modeling every detail. From a strategic point of view, the title is based on a simple and well-oiled structure, which unfortunately suffers from a basic redundancy caused by the lack of variety and the lack of depth inherent in the game situations, while the exploratory side is often plagued by problematic collision management that sometimes prevents you from fully enjoying the splendid scenarios.
It can't decide if it wants to be an RTS or a platformer, so both areas feel like they're not achieving their full potential. The presentation is gorgeous and it's enjoyable thinking about the smaller creatures in our world differently, but Empire of the Ants tries to be too much at once. The multiplayer is fun for a time, but lacks the depth seasoned strategy players want. A focus on either the story or RTS would have helped a lot.
A hidden gem with impressive graphics and a truly refreshing experience. The concept is very original. While the solo/story mode is great, the game really stands out in multiplayer. We're having a great time playing it.
Great visuals. I enjoy the audio as well. Similar to Pikmin if you like those games. Some of the controls can be difficult when you’re upside down and lighting can be too dark sometimes. Other than that would have rated it a 10.
Empire of the Ants is a beautiful game that innovates the RTS genre in a similar way that Pikmin did. However unlike Pikmin this game has full motion and total freedom. Units can climb walls, move around cave faces, all around and inside of trees. It is not quite as intricate, balanced, intuitive or tight as Pikmin, but it still feels really good to display despite the intense risks they took giving the player this degree of freedom.
The story mode is not for everyone, it teeters between Collectathon platforming missions and open-world strategy missions. It is slow paced and thoughtful. It will bore some players and other people will be enamoured with it.
I think as a game it fits somewhere in the same vein as artsy games like 'Journey', but in an intense genre with much more longevity. Plus, it has competitive multiplayer to keep you busy if the story mode starts to wear you down.
I don't think it's perfect, but I hope the developer is given the opportunity to take some of these ideas to the next level because what they delivered here is of astounding quality and just needs time to evolve.
Highly recommend only if you're a patient player and like nature.
Played one hour on my PS5 Pro, the game seems good, but there is some annoying bug with shadows that make me leave the game, it ruin the beautiful game gfx.
Some textures are also more blurry than others.
From medium range to far away it's blurry when we move, and become sharp when we stop moving.
Playing on a big screen, these gfx glitches are disturbing to me.
Hope it will be fixed as I won't play the game with such visual glitches.
giving it a 50/50
It's a beautiful game, would make an awesome screen saver(S A V E R is filtered? replace your Chinese curse filter, )....but
If you like rts's this is a poor take on the genre. Think one step below Overloard...without the funny
If you like ants and enjoy ant sim...this aint it. I've seen free phone apps with more sim characteristics
unless your bored or are easily impressed by (admittedly) stunning graphics.. spend your $ elsewhere
SummaryTake part in the exodus of a doomed and lost colony. Play as the Ant Savior, whose mission is to lead its "people" and rebuild a home, protect them, make them prosper and conquer new territories through different seasons.
Based on Bernard Werber's best-seller, Empire of the Ants will offer a strategic experience close to the iconic book...
