Brothership keeps the series' spirit alive with smart battles and a funny story.
Mario has ventured to massive worlds before. He's even surfed the cosmos across different galaxies. Rarely has a world in any of his games felt this connected. Mario & Luigi: Brothership is a game about building bonds, the kind that Mario shares with his cherished brother.

After a long time, the brothers from Nintendo's original family are back in Mario and Luigi: Brothership, bringing a colorful world, solid combat mechanics, and a fun gaming experience. Along with many dad jokes that might make you laugh, it may not be the best game in the series, but it has all the elements to have a very entertaining time.
In a year that has given us not one but three Mario-themed RPGs, I was ready to be underwhelmed by Brothership. Yet thanks to captivating combat, varied platforming and well-judged difficulty, Brothership not only lives up to my childhood nostalgia for this series, but improves upon it. It is an inviting serving of sun-soaked delight at the beginning of a gloomy November.
While Mario & Luigi: Brothership doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it’s a solid RPG with fun mechanics and lovable characters. New additions like Luigi Logic and Plugs make for satisfying combat, while overworld exploration benefits from the new Bros Moves and ample puzzles with a decent amount of variety. However, the game does suffer from what is emerging as the Nintendo Switch generational curse; frame rate drops, as well as some pacing issues in the late game.
Mario & Luigi Brothership is the biggest and boldest the series has ever been, with some novel battle mechanics and colorful presentation. However, an overstuffed runtime and exhausting pacing severely dilute the experience in both narrative and gameplay. Had Brothership been a snappier, more compact entry, it could have been one of the best in the series, but as it is, we're left with an enjoyable game that overstays its welcome once again.
Brothership’s problems will look familiar to anyone who found themselves disappointed by games like Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam or Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Nintendo has seemingly convinced itself that every Mario RPG needs to have bespoke gimmicks. It’s not enough to give players a well-written story and iterate on a solid combat foundation; there always has to be a twist, or two, or three. Those layers drag Brothership down the longer the adventure goes on, making even its intriguing climax feel exhausting by the end.
While I do feel that they NPC'd Luigi a little bit and made him more into a "partner" in this game it still is a great addition to the series. The combat is super fun and it keeps the same formula as the old games packed with awesome combos by the bros and the addition of Battle Plugs adds a lot more strategy. The story is great as well my only problem with it is that for the majority of the game you don't even know what the story is, all they give you is a "simplified" version of it at the beginning and they expect you to understand it while skipping the Why's and How's of it. Overall these are issues that don't even affect the game gameplay wise and are rather small issues this game deserves a 10/10 rating

This is a nice return to the Mario and Luigi series, however, it doesn’t hit a home run, as while the combat is the best in the series, the characters and music are more unmemorable and luigi is too automated where playing this game like the other ones can feel strange to control at first, i am a huge fan of the new additions like side quests and luigi logic however as these makes the world more interesting to explore, but outside of that it’s not as strong as most of the other titles.

The dialogue is bland and corperate.
The Average Brothership Dialogue : hey there folks' its not common to see visitors around here. Its nice to meet you two siblings', you must be mario and luigi, be careful, some mean folks' are going around destroying our hard work!
Mean folks': BWAHA me and my wicked siblings' are going to destroy your efforts! you can't stop us we are very powerful ! Yes, hit them with your slime attack! I must destory!
While the Average Bowser's Inside story Dialogue: HEY JERKWARDS! What do you two boys think yah doing messin with me huh? Think your lame hammers can break down my manly fortress?? You must be goin' crazy from its deadly fumes! HAHAHAHHA wipe those tears off your faces and come back to fight when you know how to strike a REAL BLOW.
Regardless of this, the animations is beautiful and the gameplay is...mediocre. I noticed right away how unsatisfying it was to fight when compared to other M&L games. The feeling of impact when striking an enemy just isnt there and bro moves are few and spaced out.

They basically removed everything that makes Mario & Lugi, a Mario & Luigi game. Game is super slow paced. You're constantly reminded what you have to do. You can't spend more than 10 min of play time without getting stopped by a cinematic/camera span or a dialog. The games takes you by the hand the whole time.
